1. The author designed her rear-of-the-railway tunnel for viewing from a glider on the front door stoop. Redwood stakes (stained for age) frame the inside and line the outside. Under the eaves, a shade-loving asparagus fern (Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri’, Zones 9-11) cascades from above in a box of stone and wood for the forest-in-the-distance perspective when seen from the walkway. Huckleberry (Vaccinium ovatum ‘Scarlet Ovation’, Zones 7-9) flanks the portal.
